Two
Methods of Crocheted Ribbing
by Sheila Talley
The "Orthodox"
or Traditional Method
Chain desired width
of ribbing.
Row 1
SC in 2nd and each
chain across. Chain 1, turn
Row 2-On
SC in back loop only
of 2nd SC and each SC across to last stitch. SC through both loops
of last SC. CH 1, turn
Slip stitch to edge
of garment.
My "Unorthodox"
Method
Attach yarn to corner
edge of garment. Chain desired width of ribbing. (For example,
let's say chain 10).
Row 1
SC in 2nd and each
chain across. Chain 1, turn.
Rows 2
SC in back loop only
of 2nd SC and each SC across to last stitch. SC through both loops
of last SC. Chain 1, turn.
Row 3
SC in back loop only
of next 9 SC across. Slip stitch in edge of garment level with
row. Slip stitch again 1 row up on garment. Turn. Slip stitch
again just before first SC, keeping thread snug. SC in 9 SC across.
CH 1, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3
until ribbing is completed around garment. If needed, join with
slip stitching to first edge of ribbing.
