Chain 32
(For a wider purse, simply increase length of chain in an even
number)
Row 1:
SC in 2nd chain from hook. *Chain 1, skip 1 chain, SC in next
chain. Repeat from * across. Chain 1, turn.
Row 2:
SC in first ch-1 space; *Chain 1, skip 1 SC, SC in next ch-1 space.
Repeat from * across, ending with SC in last stitch. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat row 2 until piece is desired height of purse when folded in half vertically.
Now, fold in half vertically!
SC two halves together around side, bottom and other side.
You will end up at the back upper edge of purse. Now we will make a flap.
Flap Row 1
Slip stitch in first stitch. Ch 1, continue in
pattern stitch across, ending with slip stitch after final ch-1.
Repeat Flap Row 1 until you have 3 stitches left. Fasten off.
Handle
Join yarn at either top corner making sure to miss flap. Chain
100 (or desired handle length). Slip stitch to opposite top corner
making sure not to twist chain.
Work 100 SC (or number to match number chained) evenly AROUND chain across (don't try to SC in 100 chains of fur-out unless you have very good eyes:) Join to last chain with slip stitch. Finish off. Weave in ends.
If desired, make a buttonhole by chaining 6 at bottom of flap (attach to one edge, ch 6, attach to other edge) and sew a purchased button to purse.
If you do not want a button fastener, you can make the flap lie closed by taking one stitch at each side edge of flap at top of purse through both layers.
Scrunchie
Attach yarn to hair elastic. *SC, ch 2. Repeat from * until scrunchie
is nice and full and elastic is completely covered. Join with
slip stitch to first stitch, fasten off.
