Starting at Tail, make ribbing in contrast color as directed in Row 1 below. Make the piece of ribbing (in length) the size of your dog's tummy circumference near legs, adding 1" for ease
Ribbing Directions
Ch 12
Row 1
SC in each chain, ch 1, turn
Rows 2-??
SC in back loop only of 2nd stitch and each stitch across, ch
1, turn
Finish off
Body
With main color
(You will be working on the lengthwise edge of ribbing.)
Row 1
SC evenly across edge. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2
SC in first SC, *Ch 1, skip 1 SC, SC in next SC" across.
Ch 1, turn.
Row 3
SC in first Ch-1 sp, *CH 1, skip next SC, SC in CH 1 sp. Repeat
from * across, end with SC in last stitch. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat row 3 for pattern until piece reaches to just behind dog's front legs.
Begin decrease:
Slip stitch over first 1/3 of row, ch 1, and work in pattern across
2nd 1/3 of row (center section). Ch 1, turn
Work in pattern stitch until piece reaches dog's collar, finish
off.
Slip stitch center seam (under dog's tummy)
Ribbing/Neck
Attach contrast color to top edge of work. Ch 8.
Row 1
SC in first 7 chains, sl st to edge of sweater, do not chain,
turn
Row 2
SC in back stitch of previous row across, ch 1, turn
Row 3
SC in back stitch of previous row across, sl st to edge of sweater;
do not chain, turn
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have finished whole edge of sweater. Then starting at neckline, continue making ribbing the desired length to fit around dog's neck. Rejoin to first row of ribbing, finish off.
